Cynotilapia aurifrons (formerly known as Cynotilapia sp."mbamba") is living in rocky environments and also in the intermediate zone from rocks to sand. They can be found along the northwestern coast between Mundola and Ngara and in Tanzania between Lundu and Lupingu. This variant is from Chilumba.

At the end of 2016 I´ve bought a nice group of this species. At that time the females were just 5 cm tall and the male was about 6 cm but meanwhile the male has grown up to a nice size of about 12 cm, the females are now 7 cm.

The male has taken possession of a beautiful place under the rocks in the left corner of my tank. He´s defending this territory fiercely now. In this moment he´s trying to attract a female however he´s not very succesfull up till now.

In the lake they feed mainly on plankton but also with algae from the rocks. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
